Washington Marriott at Metro Center
Address: 775 12th St NW, Washington, DC 20005
Phone: (202) 737-2200
Your hotel room (except for incidentals), along with breakfast and lunch expenses, will be paid directly by our National Science Foundation (NSF) grant. We will make hotel reservations for you. Please do not make your own hotel reservations.
Room reservations will be at the Washington Marriott at Metro Center (Address: 775 12th St NW, Washington, DC). The reservations will be for a Wednesday, November 6 arrival and a Sunday, November 10 departure unless you have specifically arranged for other dates.
Those of you who need alternative arrival and departure dates should email programs at aapt dot org for assistance. The email address has been obscured to make harvesting more difficult. Please remove spaces and replace "at" with @.
Please note that the hotel guest rooms and the meeting space are not under the same roof. Participants will walk approximately two blocks from the hotel to:
American Physical Society
555 12th St. NW
Washington, DC 20004
The easiest route is to walk down 11th or 12th street toward G street. The meeting area is just across F street, beyond a Potbelly Sandwich Shop if approaching from 11th street, or beyond the M&T Bank if approaching from 12th street.
The most convenient airport is Reagan-National (DCA). From the airport, you can get to the hotel via taxi, Uber, Lyft, etc. or less expensively (and often faster) by taking the Blue Line Metro train in the direction of Largo from the DCA station. You may purchase fare cards at the station. The one-way fare depends on the time of day, but should be less than $5. The trip takes about 18 minutes. Get off the train at the Metro Center station. The Washington Marriott at Metro Center is about one block north of the station. If you are taking the metro to the hotel, use the 12th and G Street exit.
If you are flying into Dulles Airport (IAD), you can take the Silver Line Metro train in the direction of Largo. (The trip from Dulles takes about 51 minutes.) Get off the train at the Metro Center station.
The Washington Marriott offers valet only parking at $65/day. There are several parking garages close to the hotel, with rates around $20/day. You might try https://parking.com/ to identify possible parking garages. Because many parking facilities changed their hours and prices during the pandemic, we strongly suggest contacting the parking garage to verify availability and current pricing.
Please come prepared with a device that you can easily type on (e.g., laptop or tablet with keyboard). There will also be a binder and other materials provided to you that you may want to account for when determining the size of your luggage.
Casual dress will be appropriate for the Faculty Teaching Institute. Meeting rooms may be a bit cool, so you may wish to bring a light sweater or equivalent.
